What does it take to quit getting so much spam in your inbox?

I am constantly getting spam in my inbox. I continuously mark things "Spam", but it apparently does nothing to keep it from being able to come in. It is the same subject lines for a LOT of the ones that I have marked. I am just getting inundated by spam and I am getting really fed up with it. Please, I want some hints on how to get it reduced. What does it take to quit getting so much spam in your inbox?
Use a spam filter on your email or use gmail, it has great spam filtering features. NEVER EVER EVER click the unsubscribe link on spam, that only tells spammers that you exist and confirms that your email is valuable.

Within 1 day of signing up for gmail, I had 200 messages in my spam folder. I didn't give my email to anyone. Nada. Niente. Nyet. So, just saying don't give your email to anyone is false...cuz I didn't.

Open up the email, and at the bottom there should be a link that specifies to unsuscribe from this service or whatever. When you click that link the emails should stop! What does it take to quit getting so much spam in your inbox?
1) Switch to GMAIL.

2) Stop giving your email address on the net.

3) Unplug your ethernet cable.

Forward your Yahoo mail to your GMAIL account and that might solve it :) And, spammers do send to random addresses, such as a@yahoo, b@yahoo, aa@yahoo, etc. so real spam you will always get.

ALTHOUGH: You can, with some email services, choose "only accept mail from people in my address book", then you shouldn't get any unwanted mail.
I would like to reiterate that Gmail has much better SPAM-blocking then Yahoo mail does right now. Check my reference for a signup link to try it out.
First thing is make sure your email address doesn't appear in other places on the web. If your email address is displayed on your website, your profile, or forums, spammers can find it. Removing any references to your email address on the web should help significantly. And if you find the same subject or sender on your spam, you can set up filters to block emails based on that information.
