What do you think should be done about Spam email?

Spam is always clogging up the email systems around the world. Bill Gates, the Founder of Microsoft Ltd, says that he looks forward to a spam free world. Do you think that is possible? I personally hate Spam as it doesn't give anything which of interest and they're always saying the same thing - drugs, porn, etc. How can the I.T. world become free of spam? Is Spam here to stay? Should spammers get life in prison, like the virus writers get? Lets hear your thoughts. What do you think should be done about Spam email?
I think they should be tracked down and be punished severely. I don't know how that would be done, but they should come up with some kind of protection that prevents that from happening. I really think spam represents dishonesty and lack of respect between people, it's a statement that says to us greed won over respect and compassion. It's not only about greed, it's theft. Some people who are unaware of the real intentions of this people, send their last cent to an offer of a job, and end up empty handed and go through very difficult time. It's the same as being robbed on the corner. It's terrible. It has to stop. Maybe if enough people got together and made a campaign against it, go on tv and put some pressure on this people, something must be done. What do you think should be done about Spam email?
We've already done something about it in Australia with the SPAM Act. It's illegal to send spam to addresses in Australia. There have been several successful enforcement actions.

Also, get a good spam filter and keep it up to date.

My ISP has good filters built into their network so I don't even see most of the spam if I don't want to.What do you think should be done about Spam email?
Report it, Yahoo has a facility for this, and don't open or answer it.
If I get any emails from any source which I do not recognise or have never seen before, I never open or look at the messages. I delete them straight away.
