Is posting the URL to a question of yours as part of an unrelated answer considered spam?

I see it all the time. People post a short answer to what is asked and then beg that others answer a question of theirs, giving a URL. Is this permissible on Yahoo! Answers, or is this a reportable violation?

I was once given a spam violation that I unsuccessfully appealed twice for giving a site which gave supporting evidence to my answer. It was not even my site. Yet I see people spamming their questions in their answers without penalty. Is this fair?Is posting the URL to a question of yours as part of an unrelated answer considered spam?
There has always been some confusion on this matter. With regards to the Yahoo! Answers community guidelines, this practise is known as solicitation and could be reported in theory.

Having said this, Yahoo! Answers staff have stated that such actions are permitted, assuming the user does post a reasonable answer that fulfils the requirements of the author of the question. In such cases, while the act of requesting others to answer your question may be frowned upon, the user did take the time to resolve the author's question.

If no answer or a poor answer is provided, one could report such content as either not an answer or solicitation.

All the best

It is difficult to say as to why you were given the spam violation. It does not necessarily apply to a link that you supply, but to your entire answer. If someone reported your answer, then wrote "spam" in the reason box, it could be that simple. It is usually not worth the time and trouble to appeal the violation if the violation is a simple one like that. Remember, the Yahoo server looks at the report first, not a real person. It is somewhat automatic...lol. Yahoo will not normally suspend your account for even repeated spam violations. However, if someone is targeting you for some reason in order to cause trouble, that is a different matter altogether.

As far as posting one of your questions in an answer solely to get an answer to that question, that is a violation, but Yahoo will only send a violation if that answer is reported. It's not worthwhile to report these things, save your reports for something important like profanity or blatant racism...you know what I mean...

If you have additional questions, start here by reviewing the community guidelines and look around a bit. Most situations on the site are well covered: http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/answers鈥?/a>
