What should I do if my email address is being used to send spam?

Lately my email address has been hacked into and used to send spam emails to everyone in my address book and more. This is my main email address, what can I do to stop it from being hacked? I haven't given it away on any offers or spam sites.What should I do if my email address is being used to send spam?
At some point someone obtained your ID and password and took all your contacts. From that point on they do not need your account. Anyone with a separate email program can use any address as the FROM address. There is no way to stop this method since they already have the list. To make sure they are not actually in your account you can change your password.

What do you mean you have a lot of "data" in this address? Anything stored in your email account should be downloaded and kept, for eventually you may have to close this account. Pay attention to what Barkley Hound told you, he knows whereof he speaks! And it WON'T be fine, even if you change your password. Close it and open a new account.
