Some are on an affiliate program and get some measly pennies for every spam post, some are spambots. There are loan scammers, home remedy spammers, call girl spammers - it has gotten so bad that with the approval of YA an official spam battle thread was opened on the suggestion board where quite a few users co-ordinate their efforts in fighting back. Apparently our efforts are effective and start hurting those spammers as it costs them money. Please take a look and join the fight if you like:

Note: the spam battle thread is for commercial spam only, other violations still have to be reported by hitting the report flag next to a user's question or answer.

What motivates the fools who keep giving spam answers? The advertisers that come on here are definitely getting their greens. They wouldn't post that pointlessly for no reason obviously other than to get money, or annoy people because they're bored little trolls.
As for replying with answers that have nothing to do with the question being asked, that's because people are bored, decide they want to go on Yahoo Answers and troll around, and to get a reaction out of people because they find that amusing.
Money. mean the spam that provides information or links to buy products or services, they aren't people... those are spam bots... a program written for the purpose of posting free advertising in hopes people will click on links or got to suggested sites. So yes, I guess money is the motivation. What motivates the fools who keep giving spam answers?
I honestly hate this. Here I am, asking how long to cook my turkey, and some idiot says, "Awhile."
That annoys the crap outta me.
I have to say, it might be for advertising, or being bored lazy kids who don't have anything better to do.
Their ****** douchebag dumbasses
The lolz? They're probably being paid.
